Photopolis Agrinio Photo Festival is announcing a photography contest themed “Environmental Concern”.
Participants are asked to send only one picture, depicting the above mentioned theme.
All entries must be sent by 20th Januaty 2024, until 23:59, following the guidelines described below.
The selected fifteen photos will be printed and presented to the public in a photo exhibition, part of a series of events organized by Photopolis Agrinio Photo Festival.
The top three photos will win the following prizes, which will be awarded to the photographers on the opening day of the Festival!

Jury Team

The selection will be realised by a committee, comprising of the following members : Nina Kassianou, Charalampidis Panos & Chairetaki Mairi, Papachatzi Foteini, Rea Papadopoulos, Spyros Staveris, Penelope Thomaidi.
Their decision will be final and no objections or any other kind of claim will be accepted.

Instructions

Participation in the photography contest is free of charge. However, there is a 20€ charge, to cover for costs of printing and exhibiting the 15 finalist photographs, which will be paid by the photographers, after the photos have been selected.
They will be notified, via e-mail, for the selection of their photos and they will be asked to send their pictures as printable, high-analysis files.
The photographs should not bear logos of any kind.
All participants in the contest concede to the organisers of the photography competition their rights to publish, display, print and post on social media the subjected photographs, aiming at promoting the Festival, under the term of mentioning the names of the photographers, without establishing any claim on any kind of fee.
The printouts of the photographs will be kept in the archive of the Festival, for future use and display.
Copyrights of the selected photographs belong exclusively to the photographers.
Participation in the contest automatically entails that not conforming completely to the contest rules ( not sending any or accurate contact details of the photographer, sending more than one pictures etc.) are reasons for disqualification from the competition.
The photo archive should be 1500 px on the large side and size maximum 2MB. The archive must be named in English, after the name of the photographer and it must be sent with the following form. If your photo is selected we will ask you for a large file to print.
A few seconds after the successful sending, a message will appear on your screen (just above the form) that it has been sent successfully.
Within 48 hours of receiving it, we send you an email to receive your participation. If you do not receive the confirmation email within 24 hours, please let us know by email: info@photopolis.gr

Dr Nina Kassianou

Nina Kassianou

Historian & Photography Critic, Curator

She holds a PhD on ”The Greek Civil War (1946=1949) through published photographs in the Press” from Panteion University of Athens. She has accepted a fellowship from Princeton University in the USA to research photographic archives relating to the Greek Civil War and the Greek Resistance.
She has worked, for a decade, as a photographic book reviewer for the newspaper “To Vima” (Sunday edition) and has presented photographic features from the world history of photography.
She has participated as a Portfolio Reviewer in many festivals in Europe, such as PhotoEspana, SiFest Savignano, Fotofo Bratislava, Fotografia Europea Reggio Emilia, Fotofestiwal Lodz, Hamburg Triennial, Braga- Portugal- Encontros da Imagem, Colorno-Italy- Photolife, Thessaloniki Photobiennale.
She has collaborated with the Photography Center of Skopelos, and the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography (for more than 10 years).
She was the artistic director of the gallery M55projects in Athens. A space that aimed to invite curators from all over Europe to present their work and propose exhibitions of young photographers from their countries and more recently to host work by Greek photographers in their festivals.
She has curated more than 100 exhibitions of well-known artists in Greece and abroad and at the same time a significant number of publications of photographic books.
She has collaborated with various galleries based in Athens and with exhibition venues throughout Greece.
She has authored numerous academic essays, published articles on the history of Greek and European Photography in prestigious publications and has participated as a speaker in international forums. She has authored the part of the Greek History of Photography from 1900-1969 in the Encyclopedia of European Photography 1900-2000.
For the last four years she has been in charge of Photography at DL and ENIA Gallery in Piraeus and at EIKASTIKOS KYKLOS Gallery in Academia’s, having curated international group and solo exhibitions with the participation of important photographers.
She organizes and curates an Artist’s Residency Program in Ithaca called RETURN2ITHACA which aims to create a photographic production by Greek and international artists inspired by the universal values of the Odyssey.

MARY PANOS 1

Photographers

Panos Charalampidis and Mary Chairetaki are a Greek artist duo. They are intrigued by the potential of photographic art to act as a research tool that integrates the inherent evidential nature of the medium, with emotions and the human perspective. They like to be committed to long-term projects, immersing in their subject’s world.

Rea Papadopoulou

Ρέα Παπαδοπούλου

Architect, photographer

Architect and photographer, born in Istanbul, lives and works in Athens. She studied architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and attended workshops on Photography, including a two-year theoretical class at the Fine Arts School of Athens. She is working on long-term photographic projects examining mainly environmental, social, and urban issues.
Her photography works have been selected and presented in Greek and International Festivals such as the project ‘Dark Tree’ at the Photo Biennale at Momus Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki 2021 and at the Festival Fotografico Europeo, Varese Italy 2019. ΄Dark Tree΄ was finalist project for the Discovery Awards and exhibited at Encontros Da Imagem, Braga Portugal in 2017. The same project was also among the 12 finalists for the Price at the Photo Brussels Festival 2022. ‘The Girls are Sleeping Upstairs’ and ‘The Lake You Don’t See’ was selected and exhibited at Photometria Festival at Ioannina Greece in 2015 & 2018. She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, while her works have been included in print and digital editions.

Photini Papachatzi

Cultural manager, adult educator

Photini Papahatzi is a cultural manager, educator and a visual artist.
Photini holds a Master in Arts Management from City University of London (2001) and a degree on European Civilization from the Hellenic Open University (2016). She is a member of the Bosch Alumni Network, a Tandem-Turkey recipient (2015) and a fellow of START Create Cultural Change program (2016). She is a certified trainer in adult education with teaching experience in non-formal education programs – General Adult Education (2008-2021) and in photography groups in the periphery of Greece. She designs and implements socio-cultural projects based in the periphery of Greece since 2007 in collaboration with NGOs, artists, curators and local communities. Since 2016 she manages the project “Postcards from home”, which she created during her fellowship at START Create Cultural Change program (2016) and since then she organises the homonymous interdisciplinary workshops and projects in collaboration with photographers, curators, festivals, organisations and communities in various parts of the world.
She has organised and participated in contemporary art exhibitions (most recent: 6th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, 2018, and The Provinces , TAF Athens 2019) and in photography exhibitions in NY, Cuba, UK, Germany, Greece, FYROM, Russia and Croatia. Her works are held in private collections in Greece and abroad.

Spyros Staveris

He was born in 1952 in Athens. Until 1974 he lived in Paris and from then until 1985 he divided his life between Paris and Athens, when he finally returned to Greece. He has Greek and French citizenship. He studied History in Paris (Universite Paris VII and Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales). He worked as a photographer, mainly in the Greek and foreign press. Among others, he has collaborated with the international publications: “Liberation”, “L’ Hebdo”, “Paris Match”, “Courrier International”, “Magazine Air France”, “France Dimanche”, “Vice”, as well as with the Greek : “Woman”, “BIMADonna”, “Marie Claire”, “Madame Figaro”, “Look”, “One”, “Click”, “Metro”, “Epsilon”, “K”, “Images”, “BIMAgazino” , “Postman”, “Big Fish”, “Symbol”, “01”, “Images of the World”, “View”, “Cover Story”, “Lifo”. He has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions. His works are presented in various photography publications, such as in the catalogs of the exhibitions “The Aegean Archipelagos, an Aquatic Metacity” and “Kivotos”, at the Venice Architecture Biennale, in the albums “Greece through photography: 160 years of visual testimonies “, “Place and People of the Olympic Committee” and in the special “Still Life” edition of “Vice” magazine. His works belong to private collections and the Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki. It collaborates with the DESTE foundation. He is a member of the photography agency Fotophotos and is represented by Elika Gallery

Penelope Thomaidi

Photographer, Graphic Designer

Penelope Thomaidi is a documentary photographer, member of the Hans Lucas agency. Her work investigates environmental and social issues. He collaborates with the press, while he intervenes in educational actions and participates in curatorial ventures. He also has 10 years of professional experience in visual communication design.
He has collaborated with media such as GEO France, La Tribune de Genève, Mediapart. Among others, her work has been shown at FIF Belo Horizonte, Helsinki Photo Festival, Athens Photo Festival, Thessaloniki Photobiennale, VOIES OFF screenings. In 2018 he was distinguished at the Spéos Awards 2018 (1st prize), La Bourse du Talent 2018 (finalist), Urbanautica Annual Awards 2020 (special mention). Participated in iMEdD incubator 2021.
He is a graduate of the Creative Documentary and Photojournalism program of the Spéos International School of Photography X Magnum Photos in Paris and holds an MA in Artistic Production and Research (School of Fine Arts, Universitat de Barcelona).

Photopolis Agrinio Photo Festival invites photographers to apply for its exhibition «Photofolios:24».
Submission period: Novembrer 10, 2023 to December 31, 2023.
Photographers are asked to submit 8 – 12 photographs from a particular project/series or body of work.
The theme has been left open.
Submissions must be photographic and they might also make use also of texts, graphic.
The selected eight (8) portfolios will be exhibited at the main events of the Festival.
